The Design and Technology Department teaches in mixed ability groups. We aim to produce work that will challenge all students whilst supporting the less able .Exam boards are WJEC - Letters are sent to parents on how to obtain revision guides
Key Stage 3 - Years 7, 8 and 9
Textiles Milestone Assessment Schedule 2022/23
Three or four lessons are taught each fortnight.
The topics included are:
- Basic skills in all materials
- The design process
- Use and care of basic materials
- Production of a quality material
Key Stage 4 (GCSE, Exam Board AQA) - Year 10 and 11
Course Outline – including curriculum time and homework time
Over the two years there will be six lessons each fortnight with one homework per fortnight. Textiles products will be designed and manufactured from a range of new and recycled fabrics. The equipment and processes to work these fabrics will also be studied and will involve two individual investigations. A wide range of topics will be covered including sports fashion, natural forms, morphing products, child’s play and sustainability. Technical knowledge will be taught to support these areas of study.
Breakdown – coursework, exam percentage
The course engages in focused tasks and design projects that will increase the students’ practical skills and design capabilities.
GCSE Textiles has two units of work – controlled assessment of creative design and make activities (60%) and a written examination paper (40%). The coursework consists of two tasks. The written paper is un-tiered.
