PHYSICAL EDUCATION - Mr G Read Head of Department
Miss S Hoskins (2nd in Department), Mr I Jubb (HOL Year 10), Mrs L Ellams, , Mr M Leach, Miss D Lyons (HOL Year 8), Mrs R Vaughan & Mr C Fitzsimons
The PE Department aims to develop a wide range of skills. The teaching material develops the individual’s ability to perform physical tasks and enables them to play sports more competently, but also to enjoy physical activity so the chances of them continuing after school are increased.
Important Notice
-
If your child suffers a head injury away from school that results in actual or suspected concussion, please ensure that you contact the school as they should have limited PE/physical activities for a period of time after the incident. Sports clubs should also be made aware of such an injury.
-
Students who are not able to take part in the practical element of their PE lesson due to injury or illness should bring a note from home to support this and show this to their PE teacher. They should still bring their PE kit as they will be given alternative tasks which are suitable for their situation (for example basic coaching or small group officiating) but may wish to supplement their usual PE kit with extra layers and/or a tracksuit to ensure they remain warm as they may be less active during the lesson than their peers. Changing into an alternative set of clothes for the lesson is also vital so that we can ensure that should there be a sudden change in the weather during the lesson or the surface of the fields being muddy, all students have a clean and dry uniform to change back into for the remainder of the school day.If your son or daughter's situation is likely to mean that getting changed or moving to their PE venue will not be possible, please contact the school as soon as possible so alternative supervised provision can be made for them during their PE lesson.

In Year Nine many of activities remain, but the students now also undertake volleyball, table tennis, orienteering and problem solving.

Extra Curricular Clubs Autumn 2021
In previous years the PE department has also been lucky enough to take a group of Year 8 and 9 students to Holland for a football tour. As the trip has been successful, we will be looking to run the trip again in future years. For information regarding the 2018 trip please click here for details.
